The first of 10 Indian American congressional candidates the Republicans plan to field in the midterm congressional election has been announced.
The Daily Herald reports that Manju Goel will oppose Tami Duckworth for the 8th district congressional seat in Illinois.
Goel will be officially announced Sunday at a campaign event in Busse Woods.
The Daily Herald reports that Goel appears to be a political novice and hasn’t donated to any political campaigns or ever formally run for office .
Duckworth is the first Asian American congressional representative from Illinois, the first disabled congressional representative and the first from Thailand.
Her mother is Chinese.
