It didn’t take long.
Shortly after Nina Davuluri won the title of Miss America 2014, the Twittersphere lit up with one racist rant after another.
Both Buzz Feed and BroBible listed a long series of tweets from racists outraged that the title of Miss America could actually go to an Indian American.
“An Asian and an Indian?? I thought this was Miss America!?” wrote @brockmay21.
“Well, they just picked a Muslim for Miss America. That must’ve made Obama happy. Maybe he had a vote,” said @ejrbuckeye.
“Miss America right now or miss Al Qaeda?,” tweeted @shann_wow.
It’s unfortunate. But these type of people are out there. Fortunately the judges and the vast majority of Americans disagree with these jerks.
No matter what your opinion might be of beauty pageants, the crowing of Nina Davuluri represents a step forward for the United States.
