A Texas Preservation Board has approved final plans for a Vietnam Veterans memorial despite objections from the South Vietnamese community, reports KXAN.
The plans call for the depiction of five U.S. Service members, including an Asian American, but no representation of South Vietnamese veterans.
The original plan called for one of the 5 statues to be a South Vietnamese ranger, but that was later changed to an Asian American.
Organizers say the plan is a more diverse representation of Texans in war.
“We hope they can change their minds and put back the original plan with a South Vietnamese soldier on the monument, said Christine Helm, the wife of an American MIA who supported the original plan.
