Representative John Lewis ( D-GA) joined a diverse group of 200 politicians, labor leaders and civil rights activists in acts of civil disobedience today at a pro-immigration reform rally in Washington, reports NBC Washington.

The group broke off from a larger group of thousands of protestors to block 1st Street NW with the stated intention of being arrested.
The diverse coalition included many Asian American groups such as the the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance and Institute for Asian Pacific American Leadership & Advancement, along with Julian Bond and the NAACP and numerous Latino groups.
A counter protest was held by a handful of protestors were allowed to protest at the Capitol Mall when monuments to veterans were closed due to the government shutdown.
