Life in the NFL can be full of hard knocks. But the good ones get back up.
Edward Wang was drafted as the 140th pick in the draft in 2010, going in the fifth round to the Buffalo Bills.
Wang became the first Chinese player ever to be drafted in the League. It’s a distinction the offensive tackle fully embraces.
“It meant a lot to me to be able to accomplish that,” said Wang to Asian Fortune. “It has been a goal of mine and my parents since I was a child. To finally be able to do it was a great feeling.”
Unfortunately, his story hasn’t exactly been a fairy tale.
In three years, it’s been with three teams. The Bills, the Oakland Raiders and in 2013, he signed a $1 million dollar two year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles.
About his previous teams, he said “With both teams, I got hurt during training and it prevented me from playing,” he explained. “That was the story of me leaving. I was not able to get evaluated because I wasn’t on the field so we went our separate ways.”
