Daily Tar Heel: Costume Choices Questioned at Frat Party

CATEGORIES

Halloween PumpkinPictures of Vietnamese Halloween costumes worn at a University of North Carolina fraternity party are drawing criticism from other  students. reports the Daily Tar Heel.

Some students have expressed concerns the party’s theme was insensitive, but Delta Kappa Epsilon’s president says the Vietnam War was not supposed to be the theme.

The theme, according to Stephen Stephano, was the 60’s and 70’s and that he stood at the door to watch for any offensive outfits.

“Some people wore camo,” he said. “I did not see rice hats, I saw some other things.”

Interfraternity Council President Peter Blumberg defended Stephano.

“A handful of people chose to dress as U.S. Vietnam fighters or Vietnamese people, which is a questionable call. This is not an act by the entire fraternity. It’s unfortunate that a few people have landed the fraternity in hot water.”
