The tax man and woman have delivered a blow to Manny Pacquiao that Brandon Rios couldn’t this weekend.
The Philippine Bureau of Internal Revenue has frozen the boxer’s bank accounts until he can prove he paid $184 million in taxes from his fights in 2008 and 2009, reports The National.
The report comes just days after Pacquiao defeated Rios in an unanimous decision in Macau.
“This is harassment,” Pacquiao said on ABC-CBN television.
Pacquiao says he’s already paid those taxes to the United States. An agreement between the two countries prohibits double taxation among citizens of both countries.
The Philippine Bureau of Internal Revenue says it gave the boxer two years to provide the proper documentation before taking action, but he failed to do so.
