Despite intense pressure from India to drop the charges, the US says it has a strong case against Indian diplomat Devyani Khobragade for visa fraud and minimum wage violations and will proceed with the case.
First Post quoting an unnamed sources is reporting the US has rejected claims that prosecutors misread Khobragade’s visa application to get her maid into the US.
“The case will be there against her( Khobragade), it will not be dropped. The charges will remain,” the sources are quoted as saying.
While India has been focused on Khobragade, some in the Indian American community have been trying to shift the focus to her maid, Sangeeta Richard.
They see her as a symbol of the exploitation of domestic workers in India and elsewhere.
