Mindy Kaling’s first major magazine cover is sparking controversy.
It seems Elle Magazine has chosen to show only the size 8 Kaling from the shoulder up, leading some to believe the magazine is trying to hide Kaling’s unsuper model-like body frame, reports Daily Life.
Of course this comes on the heals of another controversy. A cover of Melissa McCarthy wearing a large coat for her cover shoot also on Elle had readers wondering whether there was a cover up.
Adding to the Kaling controversy, the cover was shot as part of a series of TV cover photos. Those photos involving Allison Williams from Girls, Zooey Deschanel from New Girl and Amy Poehler from Parks and Recreation showed them in more full body shots.
In addition, Kaling’s skin tone seems to be lightened in the Elle cover photo. Kaling was the only non-white actress featured in the TV cover photos.
