US withdrawals diplomat from India, lays out case in court papers against Khobragade

Devyani KhobragadeThe US hoping to ease tensions with India over the indictment of Devyani Khobragade (pictured) has complied with India’s demand to withdrawal an American diplomat from New Delhi, reports the Herald Online.

The diplomat has not been named, but was reportedly involved in the case against Khobragade who has left the United States and has already landed in India.

“She just said, ‘Papa, I love you,’ and that’s all. And she’s happy to be back, her father,” Uttam Khobragade told reporters.

Court records reviewed by the Financial Express show his daughter refused to grant sick days and holidays to her domestic worker, Sangeeta Richard.
The indictment alleges Richard worked more than 100 hours a week for just more than one dollar an hour.
The organization Safe Horizon says Richard would likely apply for a T-1 visa which would allow her to stay in the United States and possibly lead to her becoming a permanent resident.
