Yonhap News reports that lawmakers made note of Korean American Day with several proclamations.

“Korean-Americans are leaders in business, government and the community. They serve bravely in our nation’s armed services and have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our nation,” said Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA).

Democratic New York Congressman Charles Rangel also issued a statement.

“In America, Koreans have inspired us with their entrepreneurialism and perseverance toward building success and wealth for their families and communities,” said Rangel.

In New Jersey, more than 100 people attended a celebration of Korean American Day, according to North Jersey.com.

“Instead of focusing only on ourselves, let us be citizens who are kind and care for our community and neighbors,’’ said Si Yeon You, from the Korea America Friendship League. “Embracing our identities, let us not live as foreigners in this country, but as responsible owners and citizens.”
