Advertiser: University to retire jersey of Korean American woman basketball star & coach

EJ Lee OKEJ Lee OK led the women’s basketball team at the University of Louisiana Monroe to the NCAA tournament three times and has been a coach there for 23 years.

Today she will become the first women’s basketball player at ULM to have her jersey retired, reports the The Advertiser

It’s the latest in a long line of honors for OK which include the ULM Hall of Fame, the Southland Conference Hall of Fame and the Louisiana Hall of Fame.

The four time Southland Conference player of the year played for ULM from 1982 – 1986 and reached the Final Four in 1985.

“Every award, every honor means so much to me, and I feel so good about it because when I was younger I worked so hard not because I wanted to get the awards, but because I wanted to be the best player that I could be,” Ok said. “I practiced hard. I shot extra, and my mentality was and is always that I want to be number one.”
