A 13-year old Indian American teen is teaming up with two data scientists to track bullying across the United States, reports India West.(photo by zero tolerance shirts)
Viraj Puri is developing a heat map to scan for instances of bullying on Facebook and Twitter and then aggregating that data on his map.
“We know we can do this, it’s just a matter of gaining access to the data, which would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars without help from Twitter and Facebook,” Puri said.
His hope is to pinpoint areas of the country where bullying is a problem and to figure out why. He also thinks people will use his data the same way they use data about schools–to help choose which neighborhoods they want to reside.
