Three time Jeopardy champ Arthur Chu knows his critics call him a thug, and he embraces it, reports the Wall Street Journal.
Chu’s take no prisoners approach to the game and aggressive style has earned him a bad boy reputation you wouldn’t expect from a Jeopardy champion.
“I admit I was upset when I first saw some of the things people were saying about me,” he says. “But eventually, my wife just started shoving it in my face, retweeting all these racist tweets with responses that shamed the tweeters. And that made me start getting into it….I decided I’d take Richard Sherman’s angle and play up that image. If they’re going to paint me as a Jeopardy thug, then fine, I’ll own it. I’ll bring the swagger.”
Jeopardy is currently taking a break from its regular format for its battle of the decades tournament, but Chu will return to defend his title February 24.
His current winnings total $82,000.
