Chosun Ilbo reports that President Obama has nominated a Korean American as judge on a federal appeals court.
Todd Sunhwae Kim would be just the fourth Korean American federal court judge and the first at a federal appellate court.
According to a statement from the White House, Kim has been the Solicitor General of the District of Columbia since the position was established in 2006.
He has also worked as an appellate attorney for the United States Department of Justice in the Environment and Natural Resources Division.
He graduated magna cum laude from Harvard Law School in 1997.
“Todd Sunhwae Kim has proven himself to be not only a first-rate legal mind but a faithful public servant. It is with full confidence in his ability, integrity, and independence that I nominate him to serve on the District of Columbia Court of Appeals,” said President Obama.
