A survey conducted of Princeton undergraduate students finds confusion on the Ivy League campus about what exactly it means to be Asian American.
The Daily Princeton reports the survey conducted by the Princeton Asian American Student Association found that almost all students believe people of East Asian descent are Asian American.
But one-third of those surveyed did not believe those of South Asian descent are Asian American.
Just 42.5 percent believe Pacific Islanders are Asian American.
11.5 agree that Middle Easterners are Asian American.
The survey also asked participants to rank the similarities of Asian Americans.
The 374 survey respondents believe Asian Americans are more similar racially, culturally or politically, but that economical and historical similarities are not strong.
Overall the students found Asian Americans to be very different.
