Education Secretary Arne Duncan called on improving access to quality higher education at the East Coast Asian American Student Union conference in Washington, DC, reports the GW Hatchet.
“Where school districts are not taking [civil rights violations and mental health issues] seriously, we will move in and work to fix these systems. This needs to be dealt with openly or it will continue,” Duncan said.
He said he was particularly concerned about bullying and suicides in schools.
About one thousand students are expected to attend the weekend conference at George Washington University.
Duncan was the keynote speaker on Friday.
