Asian Americans are expressing concern about a possible connection between the murders of 5 AAPIs in the last several weeks between Austin and Houston.
KHOU reports the concerns were raised during a community meeting despite reassurances from police they could find no connection.
“It’s just too close, not just proximity. It is because we look alike,” said Amy Mok, the president of the Asian American Culture Center in Northwest Austin.
The latest murder occurred in Austin where the body of Grace Chen was discovered near the language and culture school she founded.
Just three weeks ago, A Chinese American family of four was murdered near Houston.
“I can tell you that we have worked very closely with the Houston Police Department to ascertain and assess if there in fact a connection, and there is no connection between that homicide,” said Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo.
