The Academy Awards could make history tonight when the award for best original score is announced.
Robert Lopez who’s nominated for the song Let It Go from the Disney animated movie Frozen could become the first Filipino American ever to win an Oscar.
Lopez was surprised to hear no other Filipino American has ever won the Oscar.
“I was not aware of that! Wow,” he told the Inquirer. “I hope, win or lose, that Filipino artists everywhere take my example as proof that you don’t have to look a certain way for your dreams to come true. It just takes hard work, perseverance and some luck.”
Lopez has won two Emmys and Tonys for his work. Other Filipino Americans to be nominated for an Oscar include actress Hailee Steinfeld (“True Grit”) and cinematographer Matthew Libatique (“Black Swan”).
You can read about what Lopez is looking the most forward to tonight and his recent photo shoot with Billboard magazine in the Inquirer.
Other nominees include Pharrell Williams for Happy (Despicable Me 2), Karen O & Spike Jones for O (Her), U2 for Ordinary Love (Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom).
An article in Reverb says it would be a surprise if Lopez and his wife Kristen Anderson Lopez didn’t walk away with top honors tonight.
