Several shows featuring Asian American cast members are in danger of being axed, reports Guy Aoki in his column for Rafu Shimpo.
Tim Jo who plays an alien on the ABC comedy The Neighbors could be cancelled. According to Aoki, the show has attracted just a .9 rating in the all important 18-49 demographic.
Jo is one of the few Asian American male leads on television. Even fewer have been given romantic roles. But since the show debut in 2012, he has been involved in two love triangles.
Another show in danger is The Mentalist with Tim Kang as agent Cho. One ominous sign for The Mentalist, its producers have been given permission to shop the show to other networks in case it doesn’t get renewed by CBS.
Meanwhile, the much maligned Dads on Fox could get the ax. That stars Brenda Song. This is one show the Asian American community will not miss as its pilot was widely panned as racist.
