Indira Talwani has been confirmed unanimously by the US Senate as a federal judge for the first circuit which includes Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Puerto Rico and Rhode Island, reports NDTV.
She is the first Asian American to serve in that capacity in the first circuit and just the second South Asian American women in the country to be named federal judge.
“Indira is a committed attorney with an exceptional record. She is admired by her peers. We are extremely excited that another deserving South Asian has been nominated to the judiciary,” Nadeem Bezar, president of the South Asian Bar Association North America, said in a statement.
She is currently a partner at the firm Segal Roitman in Boston. She specializes in class action, labor law, civil rights law, wage and hour law, and unfair business practice law.
