Anyone who’s followed Jeremy Lin’s journey in Houston, shouldn’t be surprised at the slap in the face his team hit him with recently.
If you haven’t been following this, in its attempt to lure free agent Carmelo Anthony to Houston, the Rockets plastered a huge picture of Carmelo in a number 7 Rockets jersey. That just happens to be Jeremy Lin’s number and Lin understandably wasn’t happy.
Culture Map reminds us, this disrespect for Lin by Houston is nothing new.
Chris Baldwin wrote, “Coach Kevin McHale and (General Manager Daryl) Morey have been doing this type of thing to Lin again and again and again. The best point guard on the Rockets’ roster — one of the guys who actually did choose Houston by electing to sign that offer sheet as a restricted free agent — is routinely dissed, discounted and all but dismissed.”
But it’s the Houston Rockets that will ultimately come out the loser in all this. Baldwin thinks Lin will likely be traded to a team that appreciates him more and where his ball distribution skills will be welcomed.
The Rockets, on the other hand, aren’t likely to get Anthony and could lose Chandler Parson as well. Parson is a close friend of Lin and could bolt for greener pastures knowing that in Houston, the only players that matter are Dwight Howard and James Harden.
