Wall Street Journal: Justin Lin’s Scorpion Based on True Events

ScorpionThe series premier of Scorpion which was directed by Justin Lin is on CBS September 22.

The show is based on the life of Walter O’Brien, the fourth smartest man in the world with an IQ of 197. O’Brien told the Wall Street Journal that about 70 percent of the pilot’s plot actually occurred.

“Every episode is based in truth, especially when you get to the emotional level of the show,” O’Brien said.

Scorpion evolves around a company that solves high tech problems for business and governments. As you might imagine, anyone like O’Brien who has such an amazing IQ is a complex person. Finding someone to portray his nuances was not easy.

For that the producer chose Indian Brit Elyes Gabel from HBO’s Game of Thrones. Gabel, according to creator Nick Santora, was “able to play the difficulty of expressing emotion while being emotional.”

Jadyn Wong also has a regular part in the show. Her character had a “heartbreaking childhood” and the back story of that will be weaved into the program.

You can read more about what you can expect in Scorpion, one of the season’s most anticipated shows, in the Wall Street Journal.
