The city of Alhambra has announced its Rose Bowl float in January’s New Year’s parade will be dedicated to the Nisei veterans who fought for the US in World War II while there own families were kept behind barbed wire in incarceration camps.
The Pasadena Star News reports the 41 by 18 feet float will feature a recreation of the “Go for Broke” monument (pictured) in Los Angeles’ Little Tokyo. Some of the Go for Broke veterans are expected to ride on the float.
“There are only a few of those veterans left,” Alhambra Mayor Gary Yamauchi, said. “Every month they are dying. We’re trying to keep the story alive. It covers the prejudice, and it’s just a great story.”
