Kolten Wong’s display of power wasn’t enough for the St. Louis Cardinals to win Game 4 of the National League Championship Series Wednesday.
His solo shot in the fourth inning gave the Cardinals a 4-1 lead over the San Francisco Giants. It was a lead they could not keep, losing 6-4 to fall behind in the series 3 games to 1.
It was his 7th base hit of the series. All 7 of his hits have been extra base hits. He also doubled and scored in the second. It was his third home run in six games. That tied him for most home runs by an Hawaiian-born player in the post season– matching Shane Victorino’s feat in 2009.
The Cardinals now are just one game from elimination and have to win three straight games to advance to the World Series. That’s exactly what the Giants did to the Cardinals in 2012 before eventually becoming world champions.
“It would be nice to repay the favor,” Kolten Wong said.
