(update 1: 58% of precincts reporting, Rep Ami Bera has just a 563 vote lead over Doug Ose, 28,207 – 27,644.)
With 55 percent of the precincts reporting, Rep Ami Bera holds a small lead over Republican challenger Doug Ose 27,214 to 26,825 in California’s District 7.
The Republicans had targeted the one-term Bera as vulnerable after he won in 2012 by just two percent. He is the only Indian American currently serving in congress and just the third in history.
In the closing days of the campaign, former President Bill Clinton campaigned on behalf of Bera.
There have so far been no results released in the District 17 race between incumbent Mike Honda (D) and challenger Ro Khanna.
