In another major victory for Republicans in a night filled with them, Doug Ose defeated Rep Ami Bera in California’s District 7– 51.4% to 48.6.
Ose attracted 56,284 votes to Bera’s 53,273.
Bera told supporters last night he remained confident going into the night.
“From day one I knew this would be a very tough race,” he told Sacramento’s KXTV. “That’s why we built out our field organization. We knew we would be going into election day in a tight race.”
Bera is the only Indian American currently serving in Congress and just the third in US history.
In 2010, the race was so tight the winner was not known for more than a week after the polls closed. He defeated Dan Lungren and took over a district that had largely been dominated by Republicans.
