Asian Americans are being used and unfortunately many AAPIs have fallen into the trap of playing right along, says blogger Tim Mak for the Daily Beast.
As Mak puts it “We’re objects used to prove a political point about other ethnic groups rather than a group whose successes and failures are judged on our own.”
The most recent example is the lawsuit filed by Students for Fair Admissions against Harvard. Asian Americans are often cast as emotionless, inscrutable interchangeable parts. In Mak’s view failure to to even try to compete on a holistic scale will only reinforce that image.
When not playing the political pawn, Asian Americans are largely invisible. You can read more about the in the Daily Beast.
