The announced departure of Ann Curry from NBC News hasn’t put an end to the tensions between the two.
The Daily Beast reports that NBC has confirmed a NY Post Page Six report that Curry left the network after long negotiations to terminate her contract. The Post reported that contract was worth $12 million dollars.
NBC has provided seed money for Curry’s new start up production company.
“Ann is very likable—she’s a good person,” the Daily Beast quotes an unnamed NBC executive as saying. “But a lot of people at NBC didn’t like that she and her representatives waged a campaign solely targeted at Matt Lauer and that it just never stopped. Whether she personally orchestrated it, I don’t know, but there’s no question she was involved. And as far as anybody knows, it continues to this day. It was unfair when she started it, and it’s unfair today.
“She played the blame game, and never considered her own actions.”
That same executive said it was then NBC New President’s Steve Capus decision to remove Curry from her hosting duties at Today.
A spokesman for Curry pointed to her five Emmy nominations this year and said “This is going to be a great move for Ann.”
