Over 100 students and professors met recently at an Asian American Studies Conference to discuss the lack of opportunities to take Asian American Studies at Yale University, reports the Yale Daily.
The conference was organized by the Asian American Studies Task Force and the Asian American Cultural Center. Attendees discussed the inter-disciplinary reach of current Asian American Studies research, and many students expressed frustration at not being able to explore these areas of study at Yale.
UCLA Professor Don Nakanishi delivered the keynote address and noted that while UCLA has almost 60 Asian American Studies professors, Yale has only one full-time professor.
“Yale has not devoted sufficient resources to build Asian American Studies,”Nakanishi said.
