Dozens of FBI agents and local police officers descended on 11 Vietnamese cafes in San Jose with guns drawn this week targeting illegal gambling machines, reports the Mercury News.
Authorities say the gambling became a greater concern when an investigation tied it to a series of violent incidents, including possibly one homicide. Investigators say the machines take in up to $5,000 each week and are tied to organized crime.
More than 100 gambling machines were seized in the raids. Patrons were also detained.
“I’m playing pool with friends, and I turned around and have two shotguns pointed at me,” Vu Nguyen said. “What did I do wrong?”
