Hollywood Reporter: Live Action Mulan Movie in the Works

MulanBuoyed by the recent success of the live action movie version of Cinderella, Disney has purchased a script for Mulan from Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

No date for a movie release has been announced by Disney, as the movie studio also has other re-imagined animated classics turned live action movies in the works. Those include Jungle Book and a sequel to Alice in Wonderland in 2016 and Beauty and the Beast in 2017.

Disney originally released Mulan in 1998 using the voices of Ming Na Wen as Mulan, BD Wong as Shang, Pat Morita as the Emperor and James Shigeta and General Li. Lea Salonga provided the singing voice for Mulan and Eddie Murphy added comic relief as the dragon Mushu.

The story follows the adventures of a young Mulan who takes her aging’s father’s place in the military disguised as a man.

A straight to video sequel of Mulan was released in 2005.

It’ll be interesting to see who is cast in the movie.

  1. RE: Live action Mulan movie in the works: This is my favorite Disney movie. It is really fun and entertaining, while at the same time dealing with themes like family, duty, honor and gender-roles.
