Aasif Mandvi, best known for his role as a correspondent on The Daily Show, is about to take his unique brand of comedy to the masses through the web.
His show Halal in the Family will debut this coming Thursday.
“It is a parody web series, a parody sitcom of the all-American Muslim family,” said Mandvi on The Late Show with David Letterman. They’re an all-American family but that happens to be Muslim and wants to be as American as they can be. So they downplay everything about themselves that might scare White people.”
Much of the material will be based on his experience interviewing “crazy people” on The Daily Show.
“Some of them were Islamophobes and you know scared of Muslims. So I thought it would be great to create a web series where we could satirize some of these issues. We tried to do some social good with it as well in terms of going out there and talking to issues based talking about bigotry and racism and Islomophobia.”
