Jury selection is underway in the federal trial of a Madison, Alabama police officer accused in the police brutality case of an Indian man, reports WHNT
Sureshbhai Patel slowly entered the courtroom with the assistance of a walker to witness the proceedings. In February, Patel was enjoying a walk in a Madison neighborhood where he had been visiting from India to see his grandson. An officer investigating reports of a suspicious Black man in the neighborhood stopped Patel.
Officer Eric Parker is seen on dash cam video slamming Patel into the pavement. Patel is still partially paralyzed.
Lawyers on Tuesday questioned some 50 potential jurors.
