UPDATE: The jury ended the day deadlocked, but will resume deliberations tomorrow
The jury is now in deliberations in the trial of a Madison, Alabama police officer accused of violating the civil rights of a man visiting from India to see his grandson.
Officer Eric Parker took the stand today and for the first time told his side of the story.
Parker testified that Sureshbhai Patel, who was left paralyzed in the incident, walked away from him several times after being stopped for questioning. Parker said Patel put his hands in his pockets and did other things which made him think Patel posed a threat.
Parker denied doing a a leg sweep to take Patel down. Instead he said he shifted his weight and lost his balance. Both men fell to the ground.
