Subscribers of Netflix may be wise to check out Aziz Ansari’s Masters of None.
The 10-episode first season is being released today and is already generating buzz among critics.
Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 100% fresh rating based on 27 reviews from TV critics and 49 reviews from fans.
Masters of None looks at the dating scene from a man’s perspective, more specifically an Indian American man who’s close friends, according to Vogue, “include the gentle giant Arnold (Eric Wareheim), the clean-cut Brian (Kelvin Yu), and the real-talking-dishing lesbian Denise (Lena Waithe).”
Consider this an updated version of Friends or even Sex in the City. Only Masters of None , unlike the aforementioned series, includes the perspective of people of color.
It’s co-created by Ansari and Alan Yang, who also worked with Ansari on Parks and Recreation. . A Harvard grad, Yang past credits include the publication Harvard Lampoon, and the television shows South Park and Last Call with Carson Daly.
Yu has had small roles in Star Trek, Cloverfield and Milk.
Ansari’s parents, Fatima and Shoukath Ansari, also play his parents in the show and appear in all 10 episodes.
