For Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, NBC will have a feature about AAPI individuals entitled Life Stories.
The network released its first video Thursday and featured U.S. Olympic Gymnastic coach Liang Chow. Chow has coached such gold medalist as Shawn Johnson and Gabby Douglas.
Influential and rising voices across America will tell us, in their own words, what the Asian American and Pacific Islander experience is to them.
One of the upcoming stories will be Rini Sampath, the University of Southern California first woman president (and first woman of color) in over a decade. The story spotlights her journey as a daughter of immigrants who arrived to America to seek better opportunities for their children and her achievement working in education. Her portion of the show will be positioned with S. Leo Chiang and Johnny Symons’ OUT RUN, an equally politically-charged feature documentary on a revolutionary Philippine political party composed of LGBT aspirants for national office.
From the trailer, other subjects include Vivek Murthy, Simran Jeet Singh, the a cappella singing group, the Filharmonics and more.
The Life Stories are produced by Benjamin To.
