You knew Justin Lin would change things up a bit with Star Trek Beyond.
New details coming out (pun intended) about Sulu certainly confirm that.
In an apparent nod to George Takei who played Sulu in the original TV series, the character will be portrayed as the dad of a daughter with a same sex partner.
According to news.com.au, actor John Cho who portrays Sulu revealed the plot point during a visit to Sydney.
“I liked the approach, which was not to make a big thing out it, which is where I hope we are going as a species, to not politicize one’s personal orientations,” said Cho.
Takei who did not come out as gay until well after the Star Trek left television has become an outspoken advocate for LGBT causes.
