A San Jose attorney accused of defrauding his Southeast Asian American clients has been disbarred by a State Bar Court judge for professional misconduct.
Sterling Voss Harwood is now ineligible to practice law. The disbarment will take effect once approved by the California Supreme Court.
The State Bar says Harwood did not notify his clients after receiving their medical payments and settlement funds.
The court also found he forced those clients to sign a form releasing him of liability, a violation of state and professional conduct laws.
Two of his former clients lost their cases for wrongful death and injury as a result of the professional misconduct.
Harwood still owes more than $11,000 to three former clients.
Those clients may apply for reimbursement by the Client Security Fund.
