A Filipino American who’s dedicated to saving and protecting lives is in need of a lifesaver.
Los Angeles Police Officer Matthew Medina is fighting a blood disorder called Aplastic Anemia and is in need of a bone marrow donor, reports the Daily Breeze.
The seven-year veteran’s immune system is so weak he is unable to attend a bone marrow drive in his honor.
The most likely match will be someone from his Filipino American community which is severely underrepresented in the bone marrow registry.
“This whole experience has been an emotional roller coaster since he was diagnosed,” said his wife, Angelee Medina, said to KABC.
Many of those who have joined in the effort to save Medina have been his fellow officers.
“They’re just like a second family,” Medina said of his fellow officers to KNBC. “They’ve been there since day one. Everything I need and my family needs they provide. It’s an awesome feeling.”
