Former U.S. attorney Preet Bharara this past weekend explained three phone calls that led up to his termination under the transitional period with Trump’s administration.
Bharara, an Indian American, was an attorney until March and was ousted after he refused to resign along with other attorneys from Obama’s era, CNN reports. He said on ABC’s “This Week” that Trump tried to build a relationship with him and contacted him on multiple occasions. Once he was invited to the Trump Towers, where Trump had a talk with him.
The distinguished U.S. attorney received two “unusual phone calls” that made him feel a “bit uncomfortable.” There was also a third call which he said he did not return, according to CNN. He described these phone calls during the transition to “ostensibly just to shoot the breeze.”
“When I’ve been reading the stories of how the President has been contacting (former FBI Director) Jim Comey over time, felt a little bit like deja vu,” Bharara said.

22 hours after not returning his third call, Bharara was informed that he was asked to resign with 45 other attorneys. He does not understand why he was fired.
For Bharara, it was important to keep his distance from Trump given his jurisdiction at the time over business, including the Trump Organization’s. His interview on Sunday with CNN shows that he believes that there is enough evidence to open an investigation on Trump regarding an obstruction of justice, but warned people from drawing conclusions.
