The FBI is assisting in the search for a missing visiting professor from China last seen on Friday, June 9, reports the Chicago Tribune.
Security footage shows Yingying Zhang, 26, getting into a black Saturn Astra near the University of Illinois Champagne-Urbana campus. She got in after talking to the driver for several minutes. Zhang had just gotten off the bus when she was approached by the driver. It was the last time she was seen.
According to the
Shanghaiist, Zhang’s friends have helped in the search, spreading word about her on social media.
“I feel really anxious,” her boyfriend said in the South China Morning Post. “She is a smart girl and is cautious about protecting herself. Whenever she goes out, she will tell her classmates and teachers. She wouldn’t visit anyone alone.”
University police believe Zhang was headed to an apartment to sign a lease.
“She texted the apartment manager that she was going to be late, and then she never showed up,” Wade said in a email. “Her friends and coworkers tried unsuccessfully to contact her for a while after that, and that’s when they became concerned and called us.”
