The U.S. based human rights group called “Sikhs for Justice” (SFJ) is urging U.S. lawmakers to go on a Congressional delegation visit to Punjab to survey human rights violations against the Sikh community, reports TCN News.
Sikhs for Justice’s appeal to U.S. lawmakers comes just a week before Indian Prime Minister Narenda Modi’s meeting with President Donald Trump. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Sikh rights group met with senators and members of the House of Representatives to discuss Article 25 of the Indian Constitution, which recognizes Sikhs as Hindus and denies them their right to self-determination.

Members of Sikhs for Justice talked about the targeting and “genocidal violence” of Sikhs in India by the Modi regime. They also spoke on the illegal imprisonment and torture of Sikh political activists.
“Since religious freedom functions at the core of American values, we have asked the members of Congress to stand against the persecution of Sikhs under the Modi regime,” said Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, SFJ’s legal advisor. “Sikhs in India are targeted for campaigning to restore their separate religious identity and their inalienable rights to self-determination.”
