The family of YingYing Zhang held a candlelight vigil in Chicago’s Chinatown Saturday night, reports NBC Chicago.
The scholar from China who attended the University of Illinois has not been seen since June 9.
The FBI believes she was kidnapped.
“I have no idea and can’t think of a reason why something like this happened to her,” her aunt said while fighting back tears. “She’s a very kind person and wanted to use her own efforts to help the family either financially or any other assets.”
Zhang’s father and boyfriend also attended the vigil.
Zhang was on her way to sign a lease for a new apartment when surveillance video saw a black car approach her. She eventually got into the car and has not been seen since.
The FBI says finding Zhang is a top priority.
On Thursday, her father, Ronggao Zhang, talked to the Chicago Tribune
“Give my daughter back,” he said. “Ying, be strong, Dad is waiting for you here.”
