Police in Richmond, CA have arrested a Filipino American teacher who is accused of molesting two people.
GMA reports police received information that Normandie Santos Burgos has been molesting a 16 year old for two years. Their investigation turned up a second victim.
According to the East Bay Times, a child molestation trial in the early 2000’s against Burgos ended in a hung jury. He was subsequently fired from his teaching job in Marin County.
Burgos later set up his own tennis academy and named it the Burgos Tennis Foundation.
“This case is a testament to the strength and courage of the most recent victim in coming forward despite public misperceptions, and making sure the victimization of further young men at the hands of Burgos ends here,” said Senior Deputy District Attorney Paul Graves.
A defense attorney who represented Burgos in the previous case maintains the jury’s decision not to convict his client was the right one.
“I think in the previous case the jury did the right thing,” said Douglas Horngrad, Burgos’ attorney in the Marin case, who declined to comment on the new charges. “The jury should not have convicted … that was not a provable case.”
