Younghoe Koo who immigrated from South Korea to the United States 12 years ago has been named the starting placekicker for the Los Angeles Chargers, reports Fansided.
The rookie Koo, 23, beat out veteran Josh Lambo who was released by the team.
“BF (Benjamin Franklin Middle School) was the foundation for who I am today,” Koo said to
. “I learned English there and they were all so helpful in my adjustment to the American culture.”
Koo moved with his family to New Jersey when he was in sixth grade, reports Yahoo Sports. He entered training camp as an undrafted rookie. A soccer stand out in Korea, Koo was an All-Sun Belt Conference kicker at Georgia Southern
Koo became an internet sensation after posting video of himself doing a somersault in one motion as he kicks a football through the uprights.
