Marilou Danley, 62, the girlfriend of Las Vegas gunman Stephen Paddock, released her first public statement today after being identified as a “person of interest” in the mass shooting Sunday at an outdoor music festival.
“It never occurred to me in any way whatsoever that he was planning violence against anyone,” The Washington Post reported Danley said in a statement read by her attorney.
Danley pledged to cooperate fully in the investigation to help investigators to get to the bottom of what happened.
“Anything I can do to help ease suffering and help in any way, I will do,” she said according to CNN
“He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of that I understood in any way to be a warning that something horrible like this was going to happen.”
Her statement came after being interviewed by the FBI for several hours. Authorities declined this evening to speculate about what motivated Paddock to kill nearly 60 people.
According to The New York Times, Danley and Paddock divorced in 2015 after 25 years of marriage.
Danley’s sisters described her as “madly in love” with Paddock, in an interview with 7 News. They claim she was “sent away”
