Police are investigating accusations from an Uber driver that a passenger put a gun to his head, reports WQAD.
“I hate Turban people,” Gurjeet Singh quoted his passenger as saying.
Singh says the passenger began questioning him about his citizenship status, even asking him “Do you serve our country or do you serve your country?”
When Singh answered both, he says that bothered his passenger.
That’s when Singh said the gun was put to his head.
“I really felt I was going to die that night. I prayed to God to save my life,” he told India West.
Singh pulled over to the side of the road. He says the gunman’s wife pushed him out of the car and told Singh to drive away.
No charges have been filed in this case.
“As a former prosecutor, I can tell you that this investigation is about as straightforward as it gets,” Singh’s lawyer Amrith Kaur said. “We know this man has a gun, hates people with turbans and beards, and threatened to take our client’s life. Thanks to Uber’s smartphone application we know his identity. Nobody deserves to experience hate violence, and he should be arrested immediately.”
