A New York state senate aide suspended for making insensitive comments about Asian Americans is still getting paid, reports the New York Post.
State records obtained by the Post indicate that Daiquan Frasier, the community coordinator for Senator Brian Benjamin, is still receiving his $1,461 biweekly salary.
As AsAmNews reported last month, Frasier posted a picture on his Instagram feed of children pulling their eyes back while standing next to an Asian boy.
The post seemed to make light of the incident. The caption read “When you try to help the children in need but end up getting roasted instead.”
“It’s an example of how racism against Asian Americans isn’t taken as seriously as it should be,” Margaret Fung, executive director of the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund, said to the Post.
