The wife of Kevin Esterly, the man accused in the disappearance of 16-year-old Amy Yu, is refusing to take her husbands calls from jail, reports the Morning Call.
Esterly was arrested this weekend in Playa De Carmen, Mexico after authorities found him with the teenage girl who police said had a secret relationship with him.
Yu has been returned to Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania while Esterly was taken to Miami where he awaits extradition to Pennsylvania.
“I’m assuming he’s trying to get a hold of her (Stacey Esterly) for some type of legal representation in the process of being extradited,” Stacey’s attorney John Waldron said Sunday. “With what she has been put through, she is not accepting his calls.”
Waldron told WFMZ that his client, along with her Amy’s mother, confronted her husband about his relationship with the 16 year old.
“It was clear because of the way they would behave with each other…It was clear in a woman’s intuition, she could tell, it was more than that,” Waldron said to WFMZ. “they would fight almost every day about that. Because Kevin was not taking care of Stacey as a wife, and taking care of his four daughters. He was spending more time with Amy and it was apparent, so they were arguing and fighting. ‘How come dad isn’t around?’ the girls would say.”
Mui Luu, Amy’s mother, met with Kevin, Stacey and Amy and warned Kevin and Amy to stay away from each other.
Waldron called his clients and her daughters victims in this case.
“It’s difficult for her,” Waldron says. “And then the embarrassment as her daughters get older to understand this happened – it was in the newspaper, it was national, and international – they’re going to need some counseling too, probably.”
Stacey began looking into a divorce earlier this year.
